Hexagram #59
Huan · 涣
巽 above · 坎 below
Judgment (卦辞)
Dispersion. Success. The king approaches his temple. It furthers one to cross the great water. Perseverance furthers. Dispersion means dissolving barriers and overcoming separation — like ice melting, rigid obstacles dissolve and renewed connection becomes possible.
涣:亨。王假有庙,利涉大川,利贞。
Image (象辞)
The wind blows over the water — the image of Dispersion. Thus the kings of antiquity sacrificed to the Lord of Heaven and established temples. Wind moving over water dissolves surface rigidity; ritual and shared purpose overcome fragmentation.
