Hexagram #4
Meng · 蒙
震 above · 坎 below
Judgment (卦辞)
Youthful Folly has success. It is not I who seek the youthful fool; the youthful fool seeks me. At the first oracle I give information. If he asks two or three times, it is importunity, and I give no information. It furthers one to be persevering.
蒙:亨。匪我求童蒙,童蒙求我。初筮告,再三渎,渎则不告。利贞。
Image (象辞)
A spring wells up at the foot of a mountain — the image of Youthful Folly. Thus the superior man cultivates character by thoroughness in all that he does. A spring must eventually flow; the mountain stands firm. The wise teacher waits for the student who truly wishes to learn.
山下出泉,蒙;君子以果行育德。
