Judgment (卦辞)

Keeping Still. Keeping his back still so that he no longer feels his body. He goes into his courtyard and does not see his people. No blame. Stillness means stopping at the right point — not forcing further when one has reached the proper boundary. The mind rests when the body stops.

艮:艮其背,不获其身,行其庭,不见其人,无咎。

Image (象辞)

Mountain upon mountain — the image of Keeping Still. Thus the superior man does not permit his thoughts to go beyond the situation at hand. Mountains standing still teach that rest is not idleness but the completion of movement at its proper end.

兼山,艮;君子以思不出其位。
